Call from the Social Innovation in Health Initiative in Latin America and the Caribbean

The Social Innovation in Health Initiative (SIHI) and the Secretariat in Latin America and the Caribbean (SIHI-LAC), supported by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the Centro Internacional de Entrenamiento e Investigaciones Médicas (CIDEIM) and the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras (UNAH), have launched a new call for socially innovative health projects and solutions that have improved public health and the delivery of equitable health services, during Covid-19 pandemic.

Covid-19 has had significant influence of the delivery and provision of equitable health services and on the health of people. To respond to that social health problems, SIHI-LAC is searching creative solutions created by civil society groups, universities, private companies, government, or non-profit organizations, with some components such as sustainability, community participation, intersectorality. Often, these solutions remain unknown to health policy makers and national health implementers.

The goal of this call is to help raise the profile of these solutions such that their impact on health can be increased. Since 2015, hundreds of solutions across the globe have been identified and more than 44 solutions across 17 countries have been recognized and studied in order to learn from them how health care can be improved. As a result, many of these recognized solutions have received further support to be scaled up or adopted by country governments as part of policy. Selected projects have also become part of the global SIHI network as well as the Alliance for Social Innovation for Health in Latin America and the Caribbean (ALACISSregional network and have benefitted from publicity, workshops, collaborations with other organizations and connections with key health agencies.

The deadline for filing is midnight on July 9, 2021 (GMT).
